Squash Programs

There are singles and doubles programs for adults and singles programs for Juniors.

Singles Squash

Hit & Giggle and Whack & Run
Offered once per month, this 45 min. introduction to squash is recommended for anyone who has never or hardly ever played. Hit & Giggles are for women and the Whack and Runs are for men. Keep your eyes open for dates on the online booking page, the Highlights Newsletter and the bulletin boards. Fee: Free

NEW: Three Week Beginner Clinic
So you've come to a Hit & Giggle or Whack & Run and have decided you'd like to learn more. This 45 minute, three week clinic touches on the basics including return of serve as well as tactics. Keep your eyes open for dates on the online booking page, the Highlights Newsletter and the bulletin boards. Fee: $30.

Thirsty Night House League
Beginners are encouraged to join this league as a way to get continuous match practice with other newbies. (All levels are welcome, however). Players are divided into teams for this 8 week league and have a match with a different player of their level each week. If schedule conflicts arise, it's up to the player to find a sub from the list provided to ensure everyone is guaranteed a match each week. Part of the fee includes a well earned beverage from the pub after the match. Fee: $20

Women's Weekly Drop-In
All women are welcome to drop in for a social game of squash followed by a drink. Dates and times have yet to be determined. Please contact Melanie for more information. Fee: Free

Fun Fridays and Regular Friday Drop-In
The first Friday of each month, enjoy organized play by the Pro. These one night events may include: The Rust Remover Team Tournament, Challenge the Pro, Calcutta's, Crazy Hair Night, Seventies Hard Ball, and My First Tournament for Men and Women. For all other Fridays, a regular drop-in will be run by volunteers and Courtesy Members.

On-Line Squash Challenge Ladder
The ladder is for all levels enabling one to challenge someone in their strike range. The matches get tougher as one moves up the ladder. It's up to participants to arrange games at their convenience. Two matches per month are required to remain active. Fee: $7 per year.

City League
Beginning in October, come out and represent the VLTBC in ‘home' and ‘away' matches against other clubs in Vancouver. We have several singles teams which participate in the city inter-club league. The Open and Women's leagues take place on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Enjoy good squash then food and camaraderie after the games.

Doubles Squash

Introductory Clinics
Offered twice per year this hourly clinic is recommended for anyone who has never or hardly ever played doubles squash. Dates and Times are TBD. Fee: Free

Intermediate and Advanced Clinics
Before City League begins, Viktor Berg, top world ranked doubles player, will offer doubles clinics for intermediate and advanced players. Dates and times are TBD. Fee: $25

City Doubles League
VLTBC has dominated in City League in Vancouver for the past 25 years. This league takes place every Wednesday evening where players represent the Club in ‘home' and ‘away' matches against other clubs in Vancouver.

NEW Women's City Doubles League
Beginning in October, women are encouraged to play in this Thursday Night Doubles League and represent the VLTBC in ‘home' and ‘away' matches against other clubs in Vancouver.

Doubles Tournaments

i) Club Championships
The main adult tournament is the annual Club Championships which is in April. The squash wrap-up party is the Friday night of the Finals and all squash players are welcome.

ii) BC Doubles
In March, VLTBC is host to this prestigious event on an annual basis. This tournament attracts players from all over BC and parts of the U.S.

Junior Programs

NEW Hit & Giggle and Whack & Run for kids
Offered on one Sunday of every month, this 45 min. introduction to squash is recommended for anyone under 19 who has never or hardly ever played. ABC's
This badminton and squash program is designed for kids between 5 and 6 years. The focus is on eye hand coordination, movement and fun!
Mondays
Badminton: 3:45 – 4:15 pm
Squash: 4:15 – 4:45 pm
Fees: $50 for both half hour sessions per/ four weeks. $25 per/ 4 weeks for just squash.

Recreational
Levels I to IV: U11: Sundays 1:00-1:45 pm (NEW)
Levels V/VIII: U13: Sunday's 1:45 – 2:30 pm girls only
Levels V to VIII: U13: Sunday's 2:30 - 3:15 pm boys only
Levels V to VIII: U15: Sundays 3:15 - 4:00 pm (NEW)
Levels VI to IX: U17: Wednesdays 5:30-6:15 pm (NEW)
Levels VI to IX: U19: Wednesdays 6:15 – 7:00 pm (NEW)

Competitive
This is for players who have learned the basics and are interested in testing their skills in Junior Novice and B and Main tournaments throughout the lower mainland. They would also be completing their Levels V/VIII in the Skills Award Program.

Ages U13–U17: Weds 4:45–5:30 pm and Sundays 4:00 – 4:45 pm (NEW)

Junior City League
Four Sundays per year, Juniors can participate in an inter-club league where they play other kids from other clubs at their own level.

Sunday Junior Drop-In
All juniors are welcome to drop-in anytime from 4:45 – 5:45 pm on Sundays. This is a non-competitive environment where the kids can pick up a few skills and play with others. Fee: Free

NEW Funday Sundays (Junior Drop-In)
As part of the Junior Drop-In from 4:45 – 5:45 pm on Sundays, once per month, they can enjoy organized play and fun events such as Challenge the Pro, Crazy Hair Day, Handicap tournaments etc... Fee: Free

NEW Wednesday Teen Drop-In
Every Wednesday evening from 7 – 8 pm, Juniors between the ages of 14-17 can drop-in and play some casual games of squash with kids their own age. They are welcome to stay for pizza and socializing following their games. Fee: Free

Junior City League
Four Sundays per year, Juniors can participate in an inter-club league where they play other kids from other clubs at their own level. Fee: $5 for snacks

Tournaments
There are two in-house tournaments for junior squash players per year.
  1. The Junior Novice and B tournament in November is for players new or slightly new to squash and players from other clubs are welcome to participate. Players are divided into age categories: Girls and boys Under 11, 13, 15 and 17.
  2. Club Champs: All VLTBC players are encouraged to play in this annual event in April. Players are divided into age categories: Girls and boys Under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19. This is for VLTBC members only.


NEW Volunteer Opportunities
During the summer months of July and August as well as Spring Break, VLTBC offers a Multi Sport Camp for starter racquet players. Melanie needs help running these camps and is looking for volunteers who are 10 years old and up with some squash experience. Their role would be to assist the instructor with games as well as give the participants some helpful tips. Many schools require volunteer hours so this may be a perfect opportunity.
