Tennis Tournaments and Special Events

Club Events and Tournaments

January - Tennis B.C. Circuit Cup - this event puts B.C.'s top young players out against each other competing for spots in Canadian Indoor Nationals.

February – The Mixed Calcutta is held as close to Valentine's Day as possible. As with the Men's and Ladies Calcutta held during the summer, Men and Women are paired up, then auctioned off to players and spectators. After a day on the courts, the top teams and their owners, split the prize money, and a tennis ball can of the famous Calcutta punch.

March - Tennis B.C. Circuit Cup - this event puts B.C.'s top young players out against each other competing for spots in Canadian indoor nationals.

April - The VLTBC Masters Indoor Tennis Open Championship won the Senior Tournament of the Year Award from the USTA/Pacific Northwest Section in 2000. Renowned for being one of the best west coast senior's event, this tournaments attracts players from all over the province and beyond. Over 300 players compete in singles and doubles categories from over 35 to over 80. Every year this spring event has a new theme - a great party, terrific draw prizes, and some of the most beautiful tennis trophies. Play the event, volunteer to help, or just come out to watch the best Senior tennis in Western Canada.

May - Club Junior Championships – Our Junior championships provide competitive experiences for our young players while the round robin format ensures lots of tennis for everyone. During this event players also compete in the 'Junior Compass Tournament'. This event pairs the best Juniors with the youngest players for fun and competitive doubles competition.

June – The Men's and Ladies Calcutta satisfies the urge to gamble on the game. Men's and Women's doubles teams are paired up, then auctioned off to players and spectators. After two days on the courts, the top teams and their owners, split the prize money, and a tennis ball can of the famous Calcutta punch helps to soothe sore muscles and sore tempers.

June - Annual Club Championships offers singles, doubles, and mixed doubles to all ages and abilities. 'A', 'B', and 'C' level players enjoy competition at their level of play. Add a BBQ party, a little bit of sunshine, and the camaraderie of your fellow members - everyone is a winner here.

August - The Clay Court Challenge - the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton club is proud to host the only tournament in BC played on a clay surface. This is a team Doubles event for Senior Men (45 & 55 ) and Women (35+). Spectators are welcome and with the Club's beautiful setting, excellent viewing, and top-notch food and beverage services, the event attracts numerous Club Members as well as family, friends, and fans of the participants. Held during August, and paired with one of the Club's most popular social events, the renowned 'Pool Party', it certainly wakes up those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!

Vancouver Lawn has always supported Tennis Canada, Tennis BC and the USTA/Pacific Northwest Section, and in turn, is the host club for a number of events put on by these organizations.

October - Haggart Cup was established to encourage the Club's 'gentlemen' to play tennis with their wives, Mary Haggart, in 1945 donated the 'Haggart Cup Trophy' for a married couple's mixed doubles tournament. The event, which was first played in 1945 now includes both the Haggart Cup for married couples and a 'Double Trouble' event for non married competitors. This Friday evening and Saturday tournament welcomes the indoor season in October, and utilizes the most incredible handicapping system you have ever seen.

December - The Club Junior Indoor Doubles Shootout Tournament - This event provides great competitive doubles experiences while the round robin format ensures lots of tennis for everyone.

For many years Van Lawn has been a host site for the Tennis BC Junior Provincial Championships. The Club also co-hosted the Canadian Outdoor Senior Nationals in 1999 & 2007, and hosted the Western Canadian Indoor Nationals in 1997.

Other regional events, such as the Denny Cardinal Championship, Lovett Cup and the BC Women's Plate have been held at our Club on a rotational basis.
